Self-portrait series created on our journey home. Anybody have a bumper sticker that reads "I heart Guernsey County, OH?" Cuz I do (heart Guernsey county, that is)

Byesville Scenic Railroad: A fascinating glimpse into Appalachia's coal mining culture (and its connection to Pittsburgh's steel mills). WAY better than history class!

Kennedy Stone House- A historical property within the state park. The structure above is the root cellar. I'm such a living history dork. Hmmm, maybe I'm just a dork in general?
Quite possibly the highlight of my trip. Can I get this sign on a t-shirt?

Our plans for a trail ride were foiled by the weather, but the 3 mile drive to this stable was spectacularly beautiful and fueled the love affair I'm having with the State of Ohio this summer.

some highlights from the "processing your own meat" section: commercial grade grinders and the aptly named "Jerky Blaster." Yes, apparently you stuff one end and shoot venison (?) jerky out the other. Also saw a guy in a t-shirt that read "If we're not supposed to eat animals, why are they made out of meat?" Still chuckling

We had to test out the boating and camping equipment of course!

I felt a strangely Republican conspiracy-theorist sense of pride at how my children handled the weapons in the laser shooting gallery (50 cents for 30 shots-can you beat it???)

Little S opted for softer pursuits

An indoor pond, aquarium, and airplane? Free? Is this Vegas?

Rainy day at Cabela's. Who knew???
the place was the size of Rhode Island (almost) and had more taxidermy than a natural history museum (for real). Between the fishing and the dead animals I can't wait to get back to the natural resources park at the fair (where we can enjoy both-again!)

Have I mentioned how these kids take life by the horns and live it to the fullest?

Nana and Papa are the coolest! showed us an awesome time on the lake!

kids got arrested for being too freaking adorable
